We were having such a mild winter, and then the storm hit.
We had a cold spell 0 degree lows, highs of 10 degrees and 20 below wind chills. The last couple of days we have had a snowstorm, snow and rain mixed, and an ice storm. It snowed 6 inches over night then came the sleet and freezing rain. To top it off we were hit with an ice storm, the temperature has dropped to 3 below. The roads are a mess the ice will not melt. 100,000 people without electric thankfully ours was only out for 3 hours and it keeps on snowing. Some people have been with out electric for days and it’s getting colder. The trees are full of ice and more snow is on the way. Tree branches snapping falling to the ground. Snow missiles flying off trucks on the highway hitting cars and hurting their drivers. And more snow is coming.

With all the snow we have gotten in the last few days, I've been thinking back to when I was stationed at Fort McClellan in Alabama. It rarely snowed in the middle of the great state of Alabama. When it did snow the roads, town, and the Army base shut down. Being from Ohio where snow is a part of life in the winter, I just didn’t get it. An inch or two of snow why shut every thing down? It snowed so rarely not many folks knew how to drive on the cold white stuff. There were no snowplows or salt trucks in Alabama, there really was no need for them. The snow melted in a few hours, at most the next day. I would rather be in Alabama, were the winters are warmer and it hardly ever snows.
