My daughter AL and her boyfriend NA went to the movies last night. They came home a little after 12 P.M., they went in her bedroom and that is when things got a little strange. Her bedroom door was open; AL and NA kept looking out a side window and listening to something. I ask what they were doing and AL told me there was some animal whining and crying hurt outside her window. AL and NA got a flashlight and went into the rainy night to see what was outside her bedroom; they found a very wet half grown raccoon.
Her boyfriend NA picked the raccoon up with a shovel afraid it would bit him and gently took it to our barn. The raccoon is hurt it has a gash below it’s left eye and one on it’s jaw. The poor little raccoon can’t walk we aren’t sure if it was hit by a car or if another animal attacked it.
We put an old blanket in a big storage container and some milk soaked dog food in a small dish. I picked the raccoon up and placed it on the blanket in the storage container, and placed an old towel over it. My daughter took the raccoon in its nest to her bedroom and tried to sleep but the raccoon had other plans. The raccoon is too weak to get out of the storage container, but it kept making purring clicking noises, so it was moved to our bath tub storage container nest and all.

My husband who knew nothing about our newest animal friend got up to go to work yes he is working on Sunday not something he usually does. He found the raccoon in the bathtub and before he could shower he had to move it. So now the raccoon in the storage container nest was put just outside the door on our back porch.
The raccoon is dry moving around a little bit we aren’t sure if it ate any of the food but I added more warm milk to it this morning. Now what to do? I don’t know how we get ourselves into these kinds of situations but we have. The raccoon seems to be hurt from the gashes but not sick but it’s scared and I am afraid to try to pick it up and doctor it’s wounds.
My daughter has been calling local animal clinics and hospitals trying to find someone who can help the raccoon. So far she has had little luck being Sunday most places are closed and the ones she has talked to don’t work with wild animals.
If anyone has any suggestions please let us know, as we won’t turn the raccoon lose in the condition it’s in. The raccoon seems to be doing better it’s not crying or whining but it needs more medical attention then we are able to give it.
