I signed up and flew into La Guardia Airport, New York in July 1985
it was the first time I’d ever been on an airplane.
I did my basic training at Fort Dix, in New Jersey. I believe the Army hauled in sand for trainees to march in. Sand is a problem especially when you have a 50-lb rucksack on your back.
I was to go to Fort Leonardwood, Missouri for AIT but it was changed and I stayed at Fort Dix for AIT. My AIT was truck-driving school. My MOS was truck driver (64 charley) we called it 64 clutch.
The week I was to go home on leave before PP Hurricane Gloria hit and we had to stay a few days longer. Hurricane Gloria was my first and only Hurricane I was in.
I went home on leave and married my ex-husband, we were divorced for 3 whole months. It must have been the right thing to do we have been married almost 25 years now.
I was stationed at Fort McClellan, Alabama with the 365th Transpiration Company driving 5-ton trucks. I drove trainees of all rank but mostly basic training trainees. I will try to write about some of the funny things that happened while I was in the Army.
